Beginning to Intermediate Level Study for ages 4 - Adult

My objective in teaching piano is first and foremost to instill in the student an appreciation and love of music.  In doing so, I strive to meet the following goals:

  • Teach the student to read music and understand the importance of a steady beat and proper timing
  • Teach the student good posture and proper arm and hand position while stressing the importance of clean, curved fingers with trimmed fingernails at the piano
  • Help the student become a good listener and learn the importance of proper phrasing, dynamics and expression when playing the piano

The method of teaching piano that I use is Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber.  I ask that you purchase 5 books for the student's success. These are a Lesson Book, a Theory Book, a Technique and Artistry Book, a Performance Book and an Assignment Book. They are between $5.50 - $6.95 each depending on the book.  I usually have these on hand for you to purchase or you can pick them up at

Rockley's Music Center (rockleymusic.com),

Music and Arts Center (musicarts.com) ,

or the music store of your choice.

Call or write to set up an appointment to meet or we can speak over the phone and discuss your goals. 303-919-7053 or donnaarrants@comcast.net

The following are observed holidays and non-teaching days:

Labor Day

Fall Break as scheduled in the Douglas County School District Conventional School Calendar

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday of Thanksgiving Week

Winter Break as scheduled in the Douglas County School District Conventional School Calendar

Spring Break as scheduled in the Douglas County School District Conventional School Calendar

Memorial Day

June and July - I teach a limited schedule throughout the Summer Break. Please call or email me to verify dates and schedule lessons. 303-919-7053 or donnaarrants@comcast.net

My students must have either a fully functional acoustic piano that is in tune or an 88 weighted and touch sensitive key keyboard with attached pedals and proper piano bench at home to practice on (like the Roland RP-301, Casio PX850, Casio Celviano, Kawai CE220, Yamaha ARIUS or Yamaha CLP Clavinova). A properly tuned, fully functional acoustic piano is definitely better at preparing the student for recitals and will encourage students to reach their full potential at the piano. Students are expected to practice "at least" 5 days a week. I understand that extenuating circumstances may arise that will hinder their ability to practice 5 - 6 days every week.  However, I expect to see a genuine effort being put forth towards practice. My students must be respectful towards me and my instructions during the lessons and it must be obvious that they are practicing on a regular basis; otherwise the student may be subject to dismissal.
